MOSOP Call for Improved Security in Ogoni as Hoodlums Attack Organization’s Secretariat
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has called on the Federal Government to boost the security for residents of Ogoni especially Bori following last Saturday’s attack on its secretariat in Bori.
MOSOP is worried that the attack on its secretariat came barely minutes before the President of MOSOP was scheduled to preside over a Central Committee.
According to the admin officer at the secretariat,Sylvanus Adamgbo, “The attack on the MOSOP Secretariat took place about an hour before a scheduled Central Committee meeting of the organization which was to be presided over by the MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke”.
A group of hoodlums numbering about 40 on Saturday, October 17 attacked the secretariat of MOSOP in Bori.
Nsuke in his comment described the attack as an onslaught against the peace of Ogoni. He expressed worries that the attack could have been part of a plot to attack Ogoni elites and create crises in the region. Nsuke said the attack will not deter the efforts of the organization to move forward on its determination to drive development in the region through the Ogoni Development Authority.
The matter has since been reported to Police but no arrests have been made despite the provision of the names who were identified as sponsors of the attack.
Nsuke said the Police must take full responsibility for the security of the MOSOP Secretariat and ensure that no one is harmed.
The Central Committee meeting was to decide on a proposal put forward by the MOSOP President to address the protracted Ogoni problem. The proposal was seen as frantic effort to address the Ogoni problem and bring development to the region” However, the Central Committee meeting was rescheduled for Monday October 19 and approved the president’s proposal for the creation of the Ogoni Development Authority as an initiative of MOSOP to address the Ogoni problem and drive development for the benefit of the Ogoni people and the country at large.
