Assassination: Senator Mpigi Planned and Funded March 2023 Attempt on My Life – Chief Gani Topba

Chief Gani Topba, the National Leader of the Conscience of the Ogoni People, says the senator, representing Rivers South-East senatorial district, Barinada Mpigi plotted his assassination and poisoned the former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.

He made the allegations while featuring on a Port-Harcourt base radio station, Super Fm 93.3 FM current affairs programmes “Point Blank” on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

Gani claimed that Mpigi and his co-friends funded those who attempted to murder him, and he challenged Mpigi to petition the Police and the State Security Services (DSS) if he (senator Mpigi thinks he is lying).

“Let Mpigi stand to say I am lying and petition the Police and the DSS and I will give him the shock of his life with proof of his involvement in the assassination attempt on me” Gani Topba said on Saturday.

Radiant News reports quoted Senator Mpigi as saying “‘I’m speechless; I don’t know what to say about Gani.” Some analysts say Mpigi’s response does not amount to a denial and demanded that the senator should prove that Chief Gani’s allegation is a lie. Chief Topba also accussed Senator Mpigi of poising former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike during a visit of the governor to the senator’s home.

“I’d like to speak about Senator Barry Mpigi, my brother.” “In 2018, he lost his mother, and the former governor of Rivers State came for the burial and was given food and poisoned in his house,” he claimed.

In a dramatic debate on the station, the presenter and veteran broadcaster Segun Owolabi intervened and interjected, but he insisted on having proof and that the allegations were his personal opinion, not of the station and he continued.

“In 2019, the governor came for his thanksgiving, and the former governor, I’m talking about Wike, refused to go to his house and eat and left in his vehicle to Port-Harcourt, and senator Barry Mpigi almost fainted, and the food they prepared for the governor was dug on the ground and poured by the side of the fence, and they didn’t even give to a dog,” he claimed.

He also claimed that Senator Barry Mpigi and his colleagues organized and sponsored the assassination attempt on his life. He also challenged Senator Mpigi to file a formal complaint or petition with the DSS or police regarding the allegations of assassination attempts on his life and the former governor’s poisoning.

According to Radiant News reports, Senator Barry Mpigi responded to Gani Topba’s allegations by saying that he doesn’t know what to say about him, but that he is shocked by the allegations, which everyone knows are false. He went on to say that he was still trying to figure out what he meant by that.

Some security experts said Mpigi’s response to the accusation is an awful and did not amount to a denial. One expert, a former Police officer who prefer to be anonymous said “if all Mpigi can say is that he does not know what to say, then it is a tacit admission. Everyone cannot be aware of Mpigi’s innocense because everyone did not investigate the crime”

He said, “someone was shot and could have been killed, he comes on public radio to say his attack was plotted and funded by Senator Mpigi and all the senator could say is he does not know what to do, everyone knows it’s not true. That is no defense and suggest complicity and the authorities need to act immediately”.

Too many people have died in Ogoni and no one has been apprehended nor has there been any known Police report into the killings.

Remember that unidentified gunmen on Sunday, March 12, 2023 attacked and shot four people in Rivers State, including Chief Gani Topba, the National Leader of the Conscience of the Ogoni People. The four people were attacked in the Bori area of Rivers State’s Khana Local Government Area. The victims were on their way back from Bori, Khana LGA headquarters, to Port Harcourt when they were attacked by armed gunmen riding on motorcycles.

Remember that former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike revealed that he was poisoned at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in 2018. Wike said the poison affected his liver and kidneys and nearly killed him if it hadn’t been for God’s intervention. He made the announcement at the St. Peters Deanery in Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor, during a special Thanksgiving service organized by his family.
