Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), courageously called out Sawan’s remarks as both untrue and irresponsible. How dare anyone challenge the wisdom of the fossil fuel industry at a time when we are desperately trying to achieve… well, something, right?
It’s worth noting that this momentous occasion took place at an OPEC conference where media access was conveniently restricted. After all, who needs transparency and accountability when you’re discussing the future of our planet? Well done, OPEC, for shielding the public from the truth.
Shell, ever the embodiment of transparency, declined to comment on Stiell’s remarks. Why bother engaging in a meaningful conversation when you can simply continue pumping out profits and pollutants?
