President of MOSOP – Fegalo Nsuke

The MOSOP President or President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), also referred to as the president of MOSOP is Mr. Fegalo Nsuke.

Elected on December 19, 2018 at the MOSOP Secretariat, Bori, Fegalo Nsuke was sworn in and inaugurated along with Executive Committee at the Birabi Memorial Grammer School (B.M.G.S.) Bori on traditional Ogoni Day, January 4, 2019.

Fegalo Nsuke hails from Yeghe in Gokana local government council. He started his carreer in MOSOP as Auditor General of the National Union of Ogoni Students (NUOS) under the NUOS Presidency of Barr. Christian Nsaanee.

Nsuke was later elected as Publicity Secretary of MOSOP in December 2016 and in December 2018 was elected as President of MOSOP.

Nsuke is a graduate of management and business and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He worked in the telecoms industry rising to the position of Head of Marketing at Benix Global, a Dutch-Norwegian telecommunications company which pioneered wireless internet services in Port Harcourt, Rivers State before joining Sussex based IP Works..

He is currently an SEO specialist, and leads the server management and web design services at Todhost Nigeria. Nsuke’s specialty is in Search Engine Optimization, WordPress and Joomla designs.

He has over 200 articles on search engine optimization, website security, ecommerce and small business growth and has helped over 1,000 small businesses across the globe launch successful websites and grow there businesses.

The Ogoni Struggle

Nsuke’s hardline against corruption in the Ogoni cleanup agency, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and his insistence on having the Ogoni problem resolved permanently through a people-based recommendation for the operationalization of the Ogoni Development Authority (ODA) has earned him many enemies from individuals and elitist groups who have immensely benefitted from the struggles of the Ogoni people and largely commercialized it.

He is remarkably the first president of MOSOP to stand in from of an Ogoni Congress to declare that resumption of oil production will commence in Ogoni; but not without conditions.

Nsuke is largely seen as an ardent follower of the late Ken Saro-Wiwa and has once described himself as Saro-Wiwa’s disciple. However, he strongly acknowledges his love and allegiance to the teachings, character and charismatic leadership of the most celebrated Ogoni nationalist and first Ogoni man to graduate from a university – the Honorable Timothy Naakuu Paul Birabi.

Arrests and Persecution

On January 2, 2020, two day to when he was due to address his second Ogoni Day celebrations. Nsuke survived an assassination plot. He was kept in a secret location.

Following widespread condemnation and directives from the Police top hierarchy, his detention was made public the following day; some 18 hours after he was allegedly taken hostage by some unknown gun men who later turned out to be Police officers.

After the assassinations plot failed, he was kept in a Police criminals cell by the same Police Officers attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Squad, Port Harcourt. He was released from their detention in the evening of January 4, 2020 at about 7 PM following public outcry and condemnation of his detention.

Nsuke has faced different spinster groups created by desperate government paid chiefs and select elites who have been desperate to frustrate the struggles of the Ogoni people for basic freedom. Backed by allies of notable oil companies including Shell, they seek to break the resistance of the Ogoni people against injustice and persecution.

Nsuke’s leadership of MOSOP have seen strong confrontations, some of them being violent. However he leads a strong resistance against these groups and continues to push for a mutually beneficial deal in favor of the Ogoni people.

Nsuke may be one of the most controversial president of MOSOP in history. He developed a proposal to permanently address the Ogoni problem. The Proposal called for the operationalization of the Ogoni Development Authority and remains the most widely accepted and actionable document providing a pathway to the protracted Ogoni problem.

Nsuke continues to face persecution and increasing threats from various groups especially those who have been opposed to the struggles of the Ogoni people.
