The ONELGA Flood Mitigation and Control Committee, led by Chief Julius Okenya, has commenced the distribution of essential relief supplies to flood-affected residents in Omoku, Igburu, and Egi zones, providing urgent aid to communities impacted by severe flooding in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Chairman of the ONELGA Council, Prince Isaac Umejuru, provided the relief items to support residents displaced by the flood. The materials, which include foodstuffs, mattresses, and other essentials, are specifically designated for those most affected by the disaster.
Chief Okenya noted that while these supplies address immediate needs, the committee is also awaiting additional support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other charitable organizations. Local leaders and community stakeholders from each zone participated in the distribution, receiving the items on behalf of residents and commending the Council’s swift response.
Severe flooding has displaced numerous families in ONELGA, creating an urgent need for humanitarian assistance. The ONELGA Council’s intervention is part of a larger effort to alleviate the impact on affected communities, with further relief expected from both federal and state levels.
The ONELGA Council’s action reflects its proactive approach to disaster management, highlighting the role of local government in providing immediate support during crises while collaborating with state and federal authorities for a comprehensive response.
