The National Youth Council of Ogoni People, NYCOP, has strongly condemned a recent attack on the life of the President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke. In a statement by the president of NYCOP, Theophilus Mbagha, ESQ, NYCOP described the attempts on Nsuke's life as unacceptable and intolerable.
The statement said at about 1.44AM today, July 29, 2019, some unknown persons attempted to break into the home of the President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke in Yeghe, Gokana local government area of Rivers State. This will be the second attempt to break into his home this year and a third attempt on his life.
The NYCOP president recalled that on October 7, 2018, some youths numbering about six(6) had attacked Nsuke with dangerous weapons at the MOSOP secretariat hurting him seriously. Nsue narrowly escaped death during the attack and the matter is still lying with the state Police.
According to the NYCOP president, a confessional statement obtained from the gang leader, Bariledum Yaamene had linked erstwhile president of MOSOP, Legborsi Pyagbara, to the to the October 7 attack on Nsuke. Yaamene had admitted to organizing the attack on the instruction of Pyagbara who sent them NGN50,000 (about USD130) through one Theophilus Dike, an indigene of Buan in Khana local government area.
The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) strongly condemned the attempts on the life of the President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke and called on all youths in Ogoni to take steps to protect their domains and work strongly with security agencies to prevent the reign of criminals in communities.
The statement commended the timely intervention of the community youths in Yeghe whose prompt response to a distressed call saved the day and averted what would have turned out to be another sad story of the Ogoni struggle for freedom in Nigeria
