Netizens taunt Wike over old ‘I won’t be minister’ video
A video footage of Nyesom Ezewon Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State in which he declared that he wont be a minister has surfaced online with netizens attacking him for not being a man of his words.
The video surfaced online after Wike’s name appeared as a ministerial nominee from Rivers State after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted 28 ministerial nominees to the Senate.
In the video, Wike said he does not intend to become a minister in any government when he ends his tenure as governor.
Recall that Wike had contested the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he eventually lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Although the former governor remains a member of the PDP, he got the nod of Tinubu espite the former governor not being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the video, Wike said: “Only one person can be a minister from a state; I will not be a minister. I will not. I am not a liability; Rivers State is an asset.
“So if you don’t want to win an election, it’s your business. I’m not the one running the election. “He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him.”
Some netizens said that Wike only acted the way an average Nigerian politician would behave, while others urged Nigerians, especially voters to be mindful that politicians are primarily for the own selfish interest.
