The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) was primarily created to address the environmental problems in Ogoni. It’s formal flag off brought some relief to the people who have suffered profoundly from the consequences of natural resource extraction over the past five decades.
Soon after its launch, HYPREP became a victim of state corruption in Nigeria resulting in massive fraud and a lack of public trust. One way this fraud had been committed is the diversion of funds meant for the cleanup into public relations and frivolous training programmes which allows allocations for non-existent activities.
In some cases, contracts worth billions of Naira have been allocated to politicians and some elitist groups to silence every criticism. Some of these funds have led to the collapse of groups which hitherto were critical of HYPREP.
HYPREP has recently degraded to the extent of funding a faction of MOSOP which was essentially created by the same people who have previously overseen the looting in HYPREP.
According to reports available to Ogoninews.com, a new dimension is being added to this drama as threats and violence gradually creeps into MOSOP, a movement that had been celebrated for non-violence and recently torn apart by greed.
Ogoninews.com has it on good authority that HYPREP is Plotting to cause a major crises within MOSOP. This plot is designed to attack the MOSOP secretariat with hoodlums in the guise of a reconstruction work.
Ogoninews.com investigation reveals that on Saturday, August 10, 2024, one Theophilus Dike, associate of disgruntled Engr. Wai-Ogosu and Legborsi Pyagbara in company of one Emmanuel Kara had threatened the staff of the MOSOP secretariat boasting of funds from HYPREP and how they will use their hoodlums to vacate the secretariat staff.
They further boasted that the MOSOP president, Fegalo Nsuke who had been a strong critique of HYPREP will pay dearly for his opposition and for his recent backing for a change in the HYPREP management.
But this is not the first time Nsuke will be coming under violent attack by people who are close to HYPREP. It is on record that in 2018, Theophilus Dike and Legborsi Pyagbara planned and attempted an assassination on the MOSOP president, Fegalo Nsuke, who at the time was Publicity secretary of MOSOP.
Nsuke filed a petition against Dike and Pyagbara to the Police at the time, unfortunately, the Police failed to investigate and prosecute the matter.
Now that the duo have shown signs of their deep hatred for Nsuke and have taken fresh steps to threaten the staff of the secretariat of MOSOP, claiming to be backed by the Project coordinator of HYPREP, it is important for the general public to take note of Pyagbara’s unrelenting plot against Nsuke, and members of MOSOP.
Recall also that in 2020, precisely on January 2, there was an assassination plot on Mr Nsuke. Legborsi Pyagbara, in connivance with some Ogoni politicians were behind the plot.
This time, no one can predict how the Ogoni public will respond to the fresh plots as the world watches.
