Rights groups laud govt on medical condition of Nnamdi Kanu
Rising up for a United Nigeria (RUN) have applauded the authorities on the adherence of rule of law on matters relating to the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Guardian reports.
RUN, in conjunction with a coalition of civil societies organizations (CSOs) cited the decision to grant Kanu access to quality medical care from his personal doctors as requested; to his lawyers and to receive visitors as worth appreciating.
Led by Amb. Solomon Adodo, the group however expressed concern that these visitors now serve as couriers to pass messages that run parallel to constituted government authority.
They advised Kanu not to abuse the privilege by using the opportunity of those visits to be issuing instructions and orders that could exacerbate the security situation in the South East geo-political zone.
The group called on the authorities to expedite action in resolving the Mazi Nnamdi Kanu situation as part of the general solution to the security crises in the Southeast.
The group further called on the authorities to ensure the extradition and prosecution of Barr. Simon Ekpa from his base in Finland.
They noted: “Whether the solution lie in the legal or political options, the government should deal with it as quickly as possible. While commending the Governors of the Southeast for their intervention, we urge that more decisive actions be taken to quell any impending breakdown of law and order.
“The degenerated security situation in the southeast cannot be overemphasized. And this is no longer a time to live in any denial. All stakeholders must note that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and every other militant arm of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB); known and unknown gunmen are criminals and must be treated as such.
” In the past, some persons in the zone chose self deceit by alleging that it was the former President – Muhammadu Buhari – who was using the Fulanis to kill and destabilize the Southeast. After that, they alleged that it was the security agents themselves that were carrying out acts of terrorism to disturb the zone and taint IPOB with criminality.
“But today, we have seen some of the faces of these hardened criminals. They are from within and must be isolated in line with the prescription of the law for peace to prevail.
“Consequently, every action towards total restoration of security in the Southeast should look inwards. The enemies are within. The so called unknown gunmen are known people. They must be fully unmasked.
” To our kith and kin in the Southeast, recent developments should have illuminated all observing eyes to know that some Individuals are profiting massively from your collective travail. It is therefore time to rise collectively and resist all forms of oppression masterminded by profiteers lounging in distant shores.
“Ekpa is a criminal and his merchandize is in terrorism, setting foundation for the crippling of the Southeast and adding to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s travails. For the sake of justice for the innocent souls killed by his gang of unknown gunmen and sundry criminal rape of the Southeast, he must not go unpunished.”
