Parents Bemoan School Principals in Ogoni Over Illegal Levies
Aledges Payment of N10,000 for Malpractices
Some concerned parents of senior secondary schools in Ogoni have aledged that school principals in Ogoni are collecting as much as N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira) from pupils sitting for the senior secondary school certificate examination.
The parents called on the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and chairman of the Ogoni council areas to investigate their claims and act swiftly.
One of the parents,Pius Kina (not real name) said his daughter is registered in a secondary school in Bodo City and had been forced to pay the sum of N10,000 said the charges were exorbitant. He admitted that the school claimed the fees were for security, mathematical set and identity cards but held that the charges were exorbitant. He said the fee was outside the mandatory N1,000 the students will pay as signing fee during each examination papar.
The parent said “charging each student seating for WAESC the sum of N10,000 for examination ID card, mathematical set, and security fees excluding N1,000 signing fee of each paper is burden on us (parents) due to the economical know-how of the country”
He urged the state government and the Rivers State governor to urgently do the needful for the poor.
