A Black Christmas in Ogoniland
Ogonis will celebrate this year’s Christmas in darkness as power situation gets worse with as low as 1 hour supply in two weeks. During a visit to Ogoniland yesterday, Ogoninews found that the entire Khana and Gokana local government areas are still in total darkness.
Because the power distribution company does not have an area office in Ogoni, there was no body to contact to get an update on the situation regarding why Ogoni remains in darkness for weeks.
Ogoniland is one of Nigeria’s most viable regions with two refineries, one petrochemical plant, one fertilizer plants, two seaports, and two power generating plant. Ironically, Ogoniland has no electricity supplies except to some towns and poverty and deceases are predominant.
